Ohio Christian University Announces Presidential Search

The Board of Trustees of Ohio Christian University announces its search for the next President of the University. The Board of Trustees seeks a visionary leader with experience in academic and administrative roles. The next President must embrace and advocate the doctrinal position and educational mission of the University. Expressions of interest, nominations or applications for the next President may be sent to the Search Committee as directed in this communiqué.

Ohio Christian University remains committed to offering a complete education that develops students intellectually, professionally, and spiritually. OCU offers degree programs for residential undergraduate students, graduate students and adult online students. Additionally, the Trailblazer Academy allows high school students to complete college classes. All programs are designed to equip students to become leaders in their careers, communities, churches, families and the world.

OCU was founded in 1948 and quickly became known as Circleville Bible College. It was established for the purpose of educating clergy for the Churches of Christ in Christian Union. While remaining true to its founder's vision, Ohio Christian University (as renamed in 2006) has expanded its outreach by becoming accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE), Teacher Education Accreditation Council and the Ohio Board of Regents. It offers various degree programs ranging from associate and bachelor to various master degree options. The University maintains its strong emphasis upon degrees in religion and ministry, music and worship and teacher education. Over the past decade it has developed degree programs in such disciplines as business and government, emergency and disaster management, psychology, substance abuse counseling and human services.

Ohio Christian University's main campus is located in Circleville, Ohio. Students enrolled in the residential undergraduate program attend classes and reside on campus in Circleville, Ohio. The adult degree program offers several campus locations in Ohio and Georgia as well as online options. Combined enrollment from all locations and all academic programs stands now at approximately 5,000 students.

Significant competencies, experiences and skills required of the selected presidential nominee include the following profile qualifications and priorities.

Overarching opportunities and challenges await the next President of Ohio Christian University. The President must have professional and personal commitment to the mission and vision of Ohio Christian University. The President must have spiritual commitment and doctrinal alignment to the confessional position of Ohio Christian University and the Churches of Christ in Christian Union. The next President must be a person with a deep passion for the Spirit-filled life within the Wesleyan-Arminian doctrine and a passion for evangelism and the great commission in a worldwide perspective, ordained minister preferred.

The President Should:

• Have demonstrated a record of visionary and entrepreneurial leadership that will inspire students, faculty and staff;
• Have documented experience in Higher Education;
• Have a history of building strong relationships across various groups at a multitude of levels;
• Have an understanding of shared governance in a collaborative environment;
• Have fiscal and budget experience that combines both the understanding of public finance and the realities of enrollment-driven budgets;
• Have an ability to make decisions that are data-driven and evidenced-based;
• Have an ability to serve as a strong advocate for Ohio Christian University;
• Have approachability and the desire for involvement in campus life and engagement with students, alumni, faculty, staff and various communities;
• Have demonstrated success in fund-raising, engaging foundations, corporations and individuals;
• Have an understanding of the impact of changing technologies on higher education;
• Have an ability to develop relationships with leaders in the community and convey the story of Ohio Christian University in a compelling manner;
• Have a history of working collaboratively with local community;
• Have resilience and flexibility in the face of unexpected challenges and a proven ability to implement change and manage conflict;
• Have integrity, imagination, optimism, patience, and good humor; and,
• Have a terminal academic degree from an accredited institution.
