2008 SCD Council Update Print E-mail

The South Central District is meeting today, July 11th, for its 50th annual District Council at Brookside Church in Chillicothe, Ohio.  Ministers, delegates, and district officials will meet throughout the day to elect officers for the coming Council terms.  Many significant votes will be taken.  Updates will be made to this article as votes are announced.

General Superintendent's Address
General Superintendent Dr. Tom Hermiz addressed the Council at 9:30 A.M.  Dr. Hermiz announced new partnerships with Global Focus, CES, and the Church of the Nazarene.  Global Focus is a ministry focused on evangelistic mobilization.  CES links Hispanic ministers with Spanish speaking ministries around the world.  This will help us to greatly improve our ministry to Spanish speaking people and our Spanish speaking congregations around the country.  The CCCU will also partner with the Church of the Nazarene to enhance various ministries and programs.
Dr. Hermiz reported on the progress of the construction of the new CCCU International Headquarters.  The Headquarters staff will occupy the new offices later this month.  The new International Headquarters will include increased office, meeting, and work space.

Update: 11:30 A.M.

Elected to following offices were:

District Superintendent--Mike Holbrook
Assistant District Superintendent--Leland Allman
District Board of Trustees--Dan Harrison, Larry Olson, Robert Isaacs

South Central District Celebrates 50 Years!

Celebrating 50 years as a district, the SCD welcomed former District Superintendents Dr. Dan Tipton and Rev. Jack Norman.  Dr. Tipton and Rev. Norman reflected on the strengths and triumphs of the South Central District over the years.  Though unable to attend, Rev. Grover Blankenship was also recognized for his service to the district.  Building missionary programs, youth ministries, district camp, church plants, and more have been and remain key elements of ministry.  The greatest strength of the SCD has been and always will be its people.  Great days are ahead for the SCD!
